THE chief of police of San Jose in Northern Samar died after he was accidentally cut by a gaff of one of the cocks during a raid on an illegal cockfight Monday in Bgy. Mandugang, San Jose.
The victim was identified as P/Lt. Christian A. Bolok, 38, OIC of San Jose Municipal Police Station, Northern Samar.
Reports reaching Camp Crame showed the victim sustained a deep wound in his left thigh after it was hit by a gaff or ‘tari’ from one of the cocks he was trying to confiscate.
Bolok was declared on arrival at the Northern Samar provincial hospital in Catarman by attending physician Dr. Soccoro M Siervo.
The victim, together with other members of the San Jose Police raided a tupada in Bgy. Mandugang, San Jose Samar at around 1:30 p.m. on October 25.
Six suspects were arrested during the raid.
They arrested suspects were identified as farmers Dioscoro Grande, 46, Vecinte Medice, 81, both from Bgy. Balite, San Jose; Rodolfo Moreno, 65, of Bgy. Bonglas; Peter Anoñuevo; Junio Romines of Bgy. Gengarog, and one alias Renren Ramines dela Tinga of Bgy. West, all in San Jose.
Seized from the suspects were seven fighting cocks with one dead, two gaffs and bet money amounting to P550 in different denominations.
Investigation showed that Bolok received a call from a concerned citizen about an ongoing illegal cockfighting in Bgy.Manduyang. Upon reaching the area, the policemen caught six suspects holding the illegal cockfighting or tupada. The other violators scampered off in different directions.
When Bolok tried to confiscate the cocks, one of the cocks with a gaff accidentally cut him in the left thigh causing serious injury.
Meanwhile, the Northern Samar Police Provincial Office (NSPPO) mourned Bolok’s untimely demise.
The NSPPO, under the flagship of P/COL. Arnel J. Apud, extended their deepest sympathy to Bolok’s family and relatives.
“I have a heavy heart as we have lost a brother who sacrificed his own life in the name of service,” Apid said.
