PHILIPPINE National Police Anti-Kidnapping Group (PNP-AKG) director Brigadier General Jonnel C. Estomo yesterday announced the capture of an ISIS-inspired terror group member accused of taking part in the infamous 2017 Marawi City siege.
Estomo identified the suspect as Nabil Sandab Tomara alias ‘Nabel Sandab/Abu Khalifa.’
Estomo said that he suspect was tracked down to his hiding place in Barangay Fort in Marawi City around 10 a.m. Sunday by members of the AKG Mindanao Field Unit with the help of the Marawi City Police Station, the Lanao del Sur Police Provincial Office, the PNP Special Action Force and the Bangasamoro Autonomous Region Police Regional Office Region Mobile Force Battalion.
He said that the suspect was arrested for murder and firearms law violation.
No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of the suspect who was described as a member of an armed group that laid siege to Marawi City on May 23, 2017 triggering months-long gunbattle with security forces.
Estomo said that that they are also tracking down a cohort of the suspect identified as one Zacaria Benito alias ‘Abdula’ who was described as a new leader of a terror group operating in Lanao del Sur.
