CONTRARY to the belief of Presidential spokesman Secretary Salvador Panelo, an administration ally is convinced there is a “transport crisis” in Metro Manila.
In an interview, Deputy Speaker and Batangas Rep. Raneo Abu said that with the horrendous traffic especially on EDSA plus the poor service of the train system, the Metropolis is experiencing transport crisis.
“There is already transport crisis, the administration should accept that and should do something about it,” Abu said.
The House leader likewise asked the House Committee on Transportation and other concerned committees to stop any congressional hearing on the transport situation but instead approve bills that would help ease the traffic either for the long or short term.
“Siguro tapusin na natin lahat ng hearing at gawin na natin ang dapat na ipatupad,” Abu added.
According to Abu, pending in the House of Representatives is his proposal of “No garage, No car” which is one solution to the traffic.
Abu said the vehicles parked anywhere are obstructing the flow of traffic.
Abu also proposal the phase out of old vehicles especially those that are no longer road worthy.
“My proposal is yung mga 5-year-old vehicles should undergo test, if no longer road worthy the government shall buy and crush them,” Abu said.
“This way, luluwag ang mga daan at safe pa sa lahat,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker said the government should also improve the mass transit systems like the MRT and LRT into better and faster alternative for the riding public.
Earlier, Panelo said there is no transport crisis because people can still reach their destinations.
