THE chairman of the House committee on transportation on Wed-nesday lamented the absence of a decent mass public transportation system despite the huge allocations under the annual national budget, prompting him to issue an apology to commuters who suffer from what he called Metro Manila’s “mass transport crisis.”
Samar Rep. Edgar Mary Sarmiento, who chairs the panel, expressed his strong displeasure during his committee’s emergency meeting with the stakeholders in the transport sector on the mass transport crisis.
“I am a bit emotional because I can see the suffering of our constituents, a never-ending suffering and I wonder why despite the P4.1 trillion budget duly passed by this House, we cannot even have the decency of a mass public transportation system,” an emotional Sar-miento pointed out.
Manila has been listed as 95th of 100 on Sustainable Cities Index in October 2018, and 3rd of 56 cities with lowest quality of life of the people in May 2019.
