THERE are suspicions that politics in the Philippine National Police (PNP) and the 2022 presidential election are behind the attacks against PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde by Mayor Benjamin Magalong which is not only destroying the top cop but also President Rodrigo Duterte’s war against drugs.
According to a source, the opposition has constantly been attacking the government’s drug war and Magalong, although under the Nationalist People’s Coalition, had a good position with the PNP under the Aquino administration.
“Anong malay natin, baka sya… para hindi halata dahil nasa NPC siya dahil ang mga atake ni Magalong ay posibleng makaapekto din sa iindorso ni President Duterte sa 2022 presidential election. Ang nag- appoint kay Albayalde para maging Chief PNP ay si President Duterte,” the source added.
The source added that during the administration of former President Gloria Arroyo, Magalong was detained in 2006 as he was among those who attempted a coup. He was placed on floating status after his release.
Under the Aquino administration, he became Cordillera regional commander and of the CIDG and DIDM.
The source added that Magalong had always said that ex- PNP chief Alan Purisima had ordered him to probe the drugs operation in Pampanga.
“Mistulang pinalalabas ni Magalong na may matinding kampanya sila laban sa droga, kahit ang katotohanan ay sa administrasyong Aquino lumalala ang drug problem sa bansa,” the source said.
The source added that the attacks may have something to do with attempts to discredit him so that President Rodrigo Duterte would not accept his endorsement for his replacement.
The source added that the PNP chief is open to any investigation and believes Albayalde could clear his name from the allegation against him.
The source also said that a probe is best to let the public know the truth.
The campaign against illegal drugs continues, the source said. “Patunay ang 82 porsyento satisfaction rating sa war on drugs na tiwala ang mga mamamayan sa magandang results sa peace and order ng bansa sa ilalim ni Pangulong Duterte,” the source added.
