JUSTICE Secretary Menardo Guevarra yesterday confirmed the arrest of a person implicated in the so-called “Bikoy” videos, or series of clips uploaded on Youtube linking the First Family to laundering of illegal drugs money.
In a press briefing, Guevarra identified the suspect as Rodel Jayme, whose name appeared in the registration of website Metro Balita.net.
Incidentally, Metro Balita.net was accused of circulating the videos titled “Ang Totoong Narcolist.”
Guevarra said Makati regional trial court Branch 148 Judge Andres Soriano issued the search warrant against Jayme on April 29.
Jayme was arrested before dawn the following day.
According to Guevarra, Jayme was cooperative and surrendered his desktop computer, mobile phone and internet modem.
He added that forensic examination of the equipment showed that Jayme was indeed the registrant and administrator of the website.
Meanwhile, the National Bureau of Investigation Cybercrime Division, however, clarified that they are still determining if Jayme himself uploaded the videos.
What was clear though was that Jayme was the registrant of Metro Balita.net which was accused of circulating the videos, the NBI said.
Sara on ‘Bikoy’
Hugpong ng Pagbabago chairperson Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte does not plan to file any case against the person who uploaded the video of a certain Bikoy who accused the Duterte family members of involvement in illegal drugs.
“None from me. He is just a fool, no depth,” Mayor Duterte’s response when reporters asked her plans of action following the arrest of the video uploader.
Atty. Charito Zamora, officer-in-charge of the justice department’s Office of Cybercrime, confirmed that the man who uploaded the videos was arrested “for cyber libel.”
In the video entitled Ang Tunay na Narcolist, members of the Duterte famiy like former Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte, Kitty Duterte and even Mayor Sara’s husband Atty. Mans Carpio were accused of getting millions of money from international drug syndicates.
Mayor Sara vehemently denied this accusation saying those behind the video are fabricating stories to malign the Duterte family.
While from her end she is not filing any case, she cannot answer for her siblings.
“I cannot speak for other members of the family. Hindi ko masagot kung ano plan of action nila,” she said.
“The guy that was arrested by the NBI was the one who uploaded the ‘Bikoy videos’ for cyber libel, not Bikoy himself,” Zamora said.
The suspect was served a search warrant from a Metro Manila court, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said.
Bikoy earlier said Paolo Duterte and Bong Go had on their backs tattoos of a dragon-like figure and the alpha-numeric code of their supposed drug-tainted bank accounts.
