PHILIPPINE Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia has relayed the condolences of Foreign Secretary Alan Peter S. Cayetano to Maria Monato, mother of Filipina Mailyn Conde Sinambong who was murdered in Sweden.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) gave assurances all efforts will be exerted to obtain justice for the slain Filipina.
Garcia informed Mrs. Monato that Consul General Ma. Elena Algabre is now in Stockholm with her Norway-based cousin, Lugina Eliasen, to make arrangements for the repatriation of Mailyn’s remains; gather more information about the case; and to check on Mailyn’s two sons, aged 10 and 4.
Algabre is currently at the office of Silvia Ingolfdottir Akermark, the lawyer assigned by the Swedish government to handle the case, to gather more information on the circumstances surrounding Mailyn’s death.
Initial information said 28-year-old Mailyn succumbed to injuries she sustained after she was severely beaten allegedly by her husband Steve Abou Bakr Aalam, 50 years old, a Swedish actor-director, at their residence in Kista, northwest of Stockholm on the evening of September 23.
Aalam has been taken into custody and will be charged with murder, reports said.
The DFA Consular Office in Cebu also remains in touch with Mailyn’s mother.
