SPEAKER Alan Peter Cayetano and House Majority Leader Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez have agreed to expedite the passage of the proposed Departments for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), Water Resources (DWR) and Disaster Resilience (DDR) when Congress resumes session on January 20.
Cayetano said he met with Romualdez, who chairs the powerful House Committee on Rules, to ensure the swift passage of the three proposals, which remain a “priority” of his leadership.
“I think the three departments should be given priority,” said Cayetano in an ambush interview after the launching of the Malasakit Center at Taguig-Pateros District Hospital (TPDH) which Romualdez also attended with Sen. Bong Go.
Romualdez said the three measures are still pending for second reading approval at the House of Representatives.
“We will work to ensure the passage of these three measures when we resume session on January 20. These proposals are part of our priority legislative agenda because of their importance to protecting our OFWs, water resources and guarantee a better disaster response,” said Romualdez.
President Duterte underscored during his fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 22, 2019 the need to pass the three departments.
Cayetano also stressed that the creation of a new department for OFWs is very imperative in the light of the ongoing tension in the Middle East between the United States and Iran.
