THE Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) advised Filipinos to postpone travel to Iraq in view of the ongoing violent protests in that country.
If the travel cannot be delayed, avoid flights with early morning or late night arrivals in Baghdad, Basra, and the Kurdistan Region, the public advisory said.
Curfews are currently imposed in several cities, the DFA said.
Filipinos in Iraq needing assistance may contact the Philippine Embassy in Baghdad at (+964) 781-606-6822; (+964) 773-569-9562; and (+964) 750-810-5240 or via email: firstname.lastname@example.org; and/or via facebook page: Philippine Embassy in Iraq.
Reports said at least 40 people died in Iraq during the anti-government protests, half of them were killed while trying to storm the offices of militia groups and the government. About 2,000 others were wounded.
Protesters are demanding more jobs, better public services and an end to corruption.
