Missile attack on Saudi airport denounced

THE Philippine government condemned the second attack on Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport on June 23.

In a statement, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said “The Philippine government hopes for the speedy recovery of those injured and expresses its sympathy to the family of the single fatality during the attack.”

In view of the continuous rise in tensions within the region, the Philippine government once again reiterates its call to all parties to exercise calm, patience and restraint, and resolve differences through peaceful dialogue and consultations to prevent further regrettable incidents from occurring, the DFA said.

On June 12, 26 civilians were wounded when rebels launched a missile attack on Abha airport.

The airport was attacked for the second time on June 23 killing a Syrian and wounding 21 other civilians.

Following the recent attacks, Saudi state media have reported an intensification of air raids on rebel positions in the northern Yemeni province of Hajjah and the capital Sana’a.

There are close to 1 million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Saudi Arabia.
