Rescue plan ready

FOREIGN Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. yesterday said the Philippine Government has put in place contingency plans for thousands of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in the Middle East should the tension further escalate following the assassination of Iran’s top military generals.

THE country’s largest workers group Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) is urging President Rodrigo Duterte to lay out, in advance, a government evacuation plan for an estimated 1.2 million overseas Filipino workers in the Middle East who might be affected by an escalation of violence in the region.

Lucky OFWs get cash bonanza

SOME 30 lucky overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who arrived yesterday at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and from Singapore received P10,000 pesos each and goodies as part of the “Pamaskong Handog sa OFWs” in an electronic raffle.

Section 23 of the bill states that the amount needed for the initial implementation of the proposed measure shall be taken from the current year’s appropriations of the agencies, entities, divisions, sections or bodies subsumed or transferred to the Department by virtue of the proposed Act.
