1 killed, 2 trikers hurt in motorbike collision

CABANATUAN CITY – A 30-year-old woman-backrider was killed while two trike drivers were hurt when the motorcycles they were riding collided here on Tuesday night.

City police head Lt. Col. Arnel M. Dial said the vehicle collision occurred along the Nueva Ecija-Aurora Road in Bgy. Bangad at 10 p.m.

Killed was Jennifer Houshiar, 30, of Purok 4, Bgy. Bantug Norte while those injured were her driver Eric Espiritu, 39, of Bgy. Homestead II, Talavera; and the other trike driver, Ronel Sardillo, 27, private employee, of Bgy. Cabu.

Investigation showed the two vehicles were traversing the highway going to Bgy. Cabu when a Kawasaki motorcycle with improvised sidecar (kolong-kolong) driven by Espiritu with Houshiar as back-ride and John Paul Bernardino, 16, of Bgy. Bantug Norte as sidecar passenger was hit from behind by vehicle a black Yamaha NMAX motorcycle driven by Sardillo.

Due to the impact, both drivers and Houshiar were thrown off their vehicles, hitting the concrete pavement.

Dial said the three victims were rushed to nearby hospitals but Houshiar was declared dead on arrival due to severe head injuries.

Dial said a criminal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, physical injuries and damage to properties was prepared for filing against Sardillo before the city prosecutor’s office here.
