An armed suspected drug trafficker was killed in a gunbattle while 19 others were arrested in a string of anti-criminality operations in Bulacan last Sunday, a report to Police Regional Office 3 director, Brigadier General Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said yesterday.

Bulacan Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Chito G. Bersaluna identified the slain suspect as Jerry Pagtalunan alias ‘Kuya,’ a tricycle driver from Malolos City who is known for his drug-pushing activities in the city and Plaridel town.

He said the suspect had just sold a packet of shabu to an undercover officer of the Plaridel Municipal Police Station when he sensed the sting and tried to shoot the poseur but missed.

Back-up operatives returned fire killing the suspect on the spot. The Plaridel police headed by Lieutenant Col. Victorino Valdez recovered three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, a caliber .38 revolver with four live ammunition and a spent cartridge and the buy-bust money from the suspect’s possession.

The slain man’s tricycle — a red Jialing with improvised plate no. NG 88063 — was impounded by officers.

Bersaluna said five of the 19 arrested suspects were involved in drug trafficking too and were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations in Meycauayan City, San Jose del Monte City and Bulakan Municipal Police Stations.

He identified the five as Enrico Francisco,43; Aprillyn Alcantara,26; Day Halasan,34; Jian Nahial,34; and Janet Haygood,40. Recovered from the suspects’ possession were 13 plastic sachets containing suspected shabu and marked money they received from undercover officers.

The other suspects arrested were wanted for various criminal offenses.
