15 rebels surrender in Mt. Province

POLICE Regional Office-Cordillera (PRO-COR) Director PBrig. Gen. R'win Pagkalinawan said yesterday that 15 members of the Militia ng Bayan under Kilusang Larangang Gerilya Marco operating within the Western and Eastern part of Mountain Province surrendered with firearms and explosives Sunday morning, in Natonin and Bauko.

Official said based on the report of the joint operatives from the PNP Cordillera, Philippine Army, and National Intelligence Coordinating Agency-Cordillera (NICA–CAR), Six Militia ng Bayan have surrendered and turned over two Garand rifle, one M16, one hand grenade, one Icom HHR and subversive documents at Natonin Municipal Police Station (MPS), Poblacion Natonin, while the nine others surrendered without firearms in Bagnen Proper and Bagnen Oriente, Bauko, Mountain Province.

The surrender of the 15 Militia ng Bayan is a result of the community relations activities and dialogues initiated by Mountain Province Police Provincial Office led by the Provincial Director, PCol. Homer Penecilla, PRO-COR and Military Intelligence, and NICA-CAR in the province.

Pagkalinawan appeals to other communists who are still in the mountains to come down and legitimize their cause with the help of ECLIP and RTF-ELCAC.

The rebel returnees are now in the custody of Mountain Province PPO while their papers are being processed for admission in the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the government.
