2 arrested in Batangas buy-bust

AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Drug Enforcement Group (PNP-DEG) on Thursday arrested two known drug personalities in Calabarzon region during a buy-bust in Balayan, Batangas, PNP-DEG director, Brigadier General Ronald O. Lee said yesterday.

In a report to PNP chief, General Debold M. Sinas, Lee identified the suspects as Mitchell Sales,39, a resident of 25 Alino Street, Barangay Ermita, Balayan municipality and Resty Rey Catchillar, 37, of Bgy. 8, also in Balayan.

Lee said members of the PNP-DEG Special Operations Unit 8 headed by Lieutenant Colonel Joel Estaris conducted the buy-bust inside Ereville Subdivision in Bgy. Ermita during which a female undercover officer, joined by an informant, tried to buy shabu from the suspects.

During the 4 a.m. Thursday sting, the suspects declared a holdup, grabbed the bag of the policewoman then fled on foot. Back-up operatives arrested the duo following a brief chase.

Recovered from the suspects were a chamber-loaded caliber .45 pistol with a magazine containing six live ammunition, a bladed weapon, two mobile phones and ten P1,000 bills.

Lee reminded his men anew to be extra-precautious in conducting anti-narcotics operations and be wary of the dangers being posed by armed and dangerous criminals.

The arrested suspects are facing charges for robbery-holdup and illegal possession of firearm and bladed weapon.
