CAMP Olivas, Pampanga -- Two policemen and two civilians were killed in a shooting incident near a quarry site in Bgy. Sta. Lucia, Capas, Tarlac, early Saturday afternoon.
Chief Supt. Joel Napoleon Coronel, acting Police Regional Office 3 director, identified the fatalities as SPO2 Jason Garcia, 45, of Bgy. Cutcut 1st, Capas; PO3 Vincent Baluyot Lugtu, 40; Clint Donald Baluyot Lugtu, 33, and Renato Mercado, all of Bgy. Sta. Lucia, Capas.
Coronel said all four died on the spot due to bullet wounds in the different parts of their bodies.
Police said the incident took place along the road to a quarry site in Sitio Pingal, Bgy. Sta. Lucia at 3 p.m.
Garcia was on his way to a quarry site in Sitio Suarez when the dump truck he was riding was flagged down by Clint Donald Baluyot Lugtu, the head of barangay tanod in the area.
At this instance, Garcia stepped down from the dump truck and confronted Lugtu, who was with his brother PO3 Vincent Lugtu, currently detailed at the Regional Intelligence Division of Police Regional Office 3.
According to witnesses, the confrontation resulted in a verbal altercation which prompted PO3 Vincent Lugtu to shoot SPO2 Jason Garcia, a member of Mabalacat City Police Station, who was able to draw his gun and fired back, hitting Mercado, a bystander.
Police said a certain Bernie Pabalan Hernandez, a companion of SPO2 Jason Garcia pulled out a gun and shoot the Lugtu brothers. After the shooting, Hernandez fled on foot but he was arrested by policemen in a follow-up operation at the house of Marvin Mariano, an engineer, of Bgy Balutu, Concepcion, Tarlac, at 11 a.m. Sunday.
Police said a cal. .45 pistol (SN NCM57970) Hernandez used during the shooting was recovered from his possession. Hernandez told investigators the gun belonged to SPO2 Jason Garcia.
