TWO cops were shot dead by their fellow policeman due to a simple misunderstanding while playing a local game called “torsi” or “finger wrestling” inside their barracks the other day in Banaue, Ifugao.
The fatalities were identifoed as P/Staff Sgt. Romualdo Ngina Jr., 32, married, of Otucan, Bauko, Mountain Province and Pat. Rey Wan-ateb, 30, of Kibungan, Benguet.
The suspect identified as Police Corporal Paul Cunginan Badangayin, 28, married, of O-ong, Hingyon, Ifugao was arrested by their fellow policemen.
Reports reaching Camp Crame showed that the incident occurred early morning on Sunday inside the Regional Mobile Force Battalion -15 ( RMFB-15) located at Barangay Viewpoint, Banaue, Ifugao.
Initial investigation said that prior to the shooting, the victims were playing “torsi” inside their barracks where the suspect lost to the victims.
After the game, the suspect cursed the victims and uttered foul words against them claiming that his finger was hurt before he entered his room.
Ngina followed the suspect and hit him in the face that prompted the suspect to get his gun and shot the victim.
After shooting Ngina, the suspect also shot Wan-ated.
The two policemen were rushed to Bontoc General Hospital but were both pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Fellow policemen immediately arrested the suspect.
