A STRING of anti-narcotics operations in Bulacan on Monday and Tuesday led in the killing of two armed suspects during a gunbattle in San Jose del Monte City and the arrest of 10 others, local police director, Colonel Lawrence B. Cajipe said yesterday.
In a report to Police Regional Office 3 director, Brigadier General Rhodel O. Sermonia, the official identified the slain suspects as Jim Joshua Cordero and Erwin Mergal. The two are both included in the unified Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Philippine National Police drug watch list, he said.
Cajipe said that the two traded shots with undercover officers of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the San Jose del Monte City Police Station headed by Lieutenant Col. Gil Doming after they sensed they were dealing with a cop in Pacolis Road in Barangay Gaya-Gaya around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday.
Both were killed on the spot when officers returned fire in self-defense, the official said. Recovered from the possession of the slain suspects were one caliber .38 revolver with a live ammunition and four spent casings, one improvised 12-gauge shotgun, 20 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, several drug paraphernalia and the marked money they received from the poseur.
A 3rd suspect identified only as alias ‘Egay’ managed to escape on board a motorcycle and is still being hunted as of yesterday, said Cajipe.
Cajipe said that the 10 other suspects were arrested in separate anti-narcotics operations in the municipalities of San Rafael, Guiguinto and Balagtas and the cities of Meycauayan, Malolos, and San Jose del Monte.
