POLANGUI, Albay -- Two members of the notorious “Gilbert Concepcion Group” were killed in a gun-battle with members of the local police along Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Ogadiw, here, shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Police identified the fatalities as Christian Toralde Ecopeto and his cousin Crisaldo Ecopeto, both residents of Ligtong, Libon town, who were cornered by responding policemen during a firefight at a rice field in Bgy. Ogadiw. Another gang member was able to escape.
Barangay officials and tanods took a wounded gang member, identified as Francisco Sigadap, who was found at 3 a.m. Wednesday, to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH) in Legazpi City.
Tuesday night, local policemen responded to a report by Benmark Tagong, 26, a resident of Bgy. Matacon, this town, who was reportedly held up by the suspects at gunpoint and divested him of his P1,500 along the Maharlika Highway in Bgy. Ogadiw.
The responding policemen sighted the three suspects riding a single motorcycle and gave chase, triggering a firefight, which resulted in the killing of the suspects.
