PALAYAN CITY -- Police nabbed two heavy equipment operators for alleged illegal extraction of sand and gravel in Nueva Ecija's capital city on Saturday.
City police head Lt. Col. Renato Morales identified the two arrested suspects as Vicente Benico, 39, dump truck driver, of Bgy. Del Pilar, Zaragosa and Efren Francisco, 44, pay loader operator, of Bgy. Popolon, this city.
The two suspects were caught doing illegal quarrying activities in Bgy. Popolon at 4:30 p.m.
When accosted, they failed to show the required permit for quarrying, Morales said.
Also impounded by the police were a blue Isuzu Giga dump truck and a yellow Liu Gong 855H loader used by the two suspects in their illegal operation.
Charges for violation of Republic Act 7942 or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 are being prepared for filing against them before the city prosecutor's office here.
