SAN LEONARDO, Nueva Ecija – Police on Sunday night arrested two Baguio City residents while transporting dog meat in this city.
Nabbed were Julius Ayac-Ayac, 32; and Jasper Pitan, 28, of Bgy. P. Burgos, Baguio City.
Provincial police director Sr. Supt. Leon Victor Rosete said the suspects were in a Tamaraw FX van when flagged down by his men at a checkpoint in Bgy. Diversion at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Rosete said the operation was hatched following reports received by the Animal Kingdom Foundation Inc. about the alleged rampant illegal trade of dog meat in the village.
Seized from van were 19 heads of slaughtered dog meat and 14 live dogs stuffed in sacks of rice.
Rosete said the suspects will be charged with violations of Republic Act 8485 or the Animal Welfare Act.
