AGENTS of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and the Police Regional Office 5 are jointly investigating the reported killing of two men said to be members of the human rights group Karapatan in Sorsogon province last Saturday, PNP chief, Director General Oscar D. Albayalde said yesterday.
However, the PNP chief said there is also the need to establish if the two victims identified as Ryan Hubilla and Nelly Bagasala are really members of Karapatan or not.
“We also have to establish kung talagang member ‘yan. Who knows baka mamaya, tine-take advantage lang din nila ‘yan or they’re saying that ito ay member. You know these people, they take advantage on almost everything. Kaya kailangan nila iprove kung talagang member nila ‘yan. Even us, kailangan nating i-confirm whether they are members of Karapatan or not,” Gen. Albayalde said.
The two were said to have been shot dead by motorcycle-riding men inside the Seabreeze Homes Subdivision in Barangay Cabid-an in Sorsogon City.
“With regards to that incident na kine-claim na members of Karapatan, the case is being jointly investigated by the CIDG and local police. Wala pa kaming update but we will provide as soon as we get the report from our units on the ground,” PNP-CIDG director, Major General Amador V. Corpus told newsmen at Camp Crame.
The left-leaning Bayan Muna party-list group also reported the killing of one of their members identified as Neptali Morada yesterday in Barangay San Isidro in Naga City.
PRO5 director, Brigadier General Arnel B. Escobal has ordered a thorough invstigation into the two shooting incidents.
