2 kids, 6 Abu Sayyaf Group killed in Patikul encounter

TWO kids and six Abu Sayyaf Group ( ASG ) members were killed while 15 others including seven bandits, three children and five soldiers were wounded in an encounter the other day in Patikul, Sulu.

This was confirmed by Joint Task Force Sulu Commander Brigadier General Divino Rey C .Pabayo Jr.

Pabayo identified the fatalities as Saiful Abdun, one year old amd Jahida Usab, 12.

Three children and five soldiers who were wounded in the encounter were rushed to the hospital for treatment.

Western Mindanao Command ( Wesmincom) Spokesperson Colonel Gerry Besana said the enclunter occurred at around 5:25 p.m. at Bgy. Isagan, Patikul , Sulu.

Besana said elements of 13th Special Forces Company of Philippine Army were conducting focused military operation in the area when they encountered atleast 30 members of ASG led by their sub leader Mundi Sawadjaan.

Accordingly, the bandits attacked the troops who were undergoing community support activity in the area that triggered the firefight.

The firefight lasted for 30 minutes that resulted in the killing of six bandita and wounding of seven ASGs, five soldiers and three children who were caught in a crossfire.

One of the wounded soldiers identified as 2Lt Christian Capiz , platoon leader, tried his best to rescue the three children who were caught in the crossfire.

“I could have easily withdrawn my troops to a safer position, but I cannot leave behind the trapped and panicking children. So I ordered my men to hold their position and prevent the advance of the ASG at all cost,” capiz said.
