2 Maute terrorists die in Tacurong shootout

TWO suspected members of the ISIS-inspired Maute Terror Group (MTG) were killed in a shootout with government forces shortly after the suspects hesitated to pass at a checkpoint yesterday morning in Tacurong City.

Reports from Police Regional Office (PRO) 12 director Chief Supt. Eliseo Tam Rasco said the encounter occurred at 2:20 a.m. along Kapingkong Road, Bgy. EJC Montilla, Tacurong City.

The identities of the slain terrorists were not yet available as of press time.

Innvestigators said the suspects who were onboard a gray multicab hesitated to pass at a checkpoint in Isulan and made a sudden U-turn going to Tacurong City.

Joint security forces manning the checkpoint chased the suspects who were cornered on Kapingkong Road, triggering a firefight that resulted in the latters’ death.

Prior to the shootout, the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Police Office received an information regarding the transport of IEDs in the areas of Tacurong City and Isulan that prompted them to establish a checkpoint.

Recovered from the slain suspects were a 9mm Berretta pistol bearing the name of the PNP, a KG9 and assorted ammunition, one unit of improvised explosive device and a black ISIS flag.
