2 men gunned down for evading checkpoint

TWO armed motorcycle-riding men who tried to evade a police-Comelec  checkpoint in San Jose del Monte City around 1:15 a.m. yesterday were killed in a gunbattle with pursuing officers, a report to Police Regional Office 3 director Chief Superintendent Joel Napoleon M. Coronel said.

The still unidentified suspects yielded a loaded caliber .45 and a cal. .38 revolver with several live ammunition. Police also impounded their motorcycle which has no license plate. The two became on record the 1st two armed riding-in tandem crime suspects to be killed in a gunbattle with police since the nationwide gun ban started past midnight Saturday. 

A Bulacan police report said the two were being flagged down for routine inspection by policemen manning the gun ban checkpoint along Benjamin Village, Barangay Graceville when they tried to escape.

Officers from the 2ndBulacan Provincial Mobile Force Company, joined by soldiers from the Army’s 48th Infantry Battalion pursued the duo as an alarm was flashed for their interception.

While about to be intercepted, the two reportedly fired shots at the lawmen who were forced to retaliate killing both on the spot, said Supt. Orlando Castil Jr.
