TWO New People’s Army rebels in Bicol region were arrested by the local police in a manhunt operation in Mandaon, Masbate last Friday, Philippine National Police chief, General Debold M. Sinas said yesterday.

Suspects Levino Ramirez alias’ Binsoy/Binoy,’48; and Jerson Vargas,38, were nabbed by the local police on the strength of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Ronal Bersales of the Masbate City Regional Trial Court Branch 47, the PNP chief said.

“The PNP will continue to pursue CPP-NPA-NDF members wanted by the law for criminal charges and who have been eluding arrest for years,” said Sinas who has ordered an intensified drive to support the anti-communist campaign of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Vicente and Villaruel were identified as members of an NPA unit operating in Masbate headed by one Eliseo Carbarles alyas ‘Ka Raymond.’ Both were turned over to the custody of the Regional Intelligence Unit 5 for debriefing and booking procedures pending their posting of bail amounting to P200,000.
