2 ‘Scorpion Crime Group’ men die in Cavite clash

CAVITE City, Cavite -- Two alleged members of the notorious “Scorpion Crime Group” was killed in an armed encounter with operatives of Cavite City police, yesterday morning.

Supt. Francisco Lucena III, officer-in-charge of Cavite City police, the Police Intelligence Branch (PIB) and the Highway Patrol Group and the Cavite PPO identified the slain suspects as Alex Quijano, alias Tuytuy, and Christopher Garciano Bermudez, both of Bgy 36M, Caridad, Cavite City.

Police said Quijano and Garcia drew their guns when they noticed the presence of the police operatives and fired at the latter, who returned fire, hitting John Alex Quijano.

Bermudez also drew his firearm, prompting the operating units to shoot him.

The suspects were rushed to Bautista Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival by Dr. Gerwin Tibig MD, the attending physician.

Police said the suspects were involved in several robbery incidents in Cavite province, particularly in Cavite City last Dec 5, 2018, wherein they held hostage two elderly people and a minor for 16 hours and carted away P180,000 and pieces of jewelry.

Informants told police probers that the suspects were involved in illegal drug trade and other crimes.

For his part, Cavite police director Senior Supt. William Segun said the neutralization of the suspects will result in the reduction of illegal drug trade and robbery incidents in the province.

A Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered a caliber .45mm Springfield Armory (serial no. 279157) loaded with five bullets, a  cal. .38 loaded with four ammo and one fired cartidge, three fired cartidges for cal. 9mm and two fired bullets from Tuytuy as well as the buy-bust money P500 and a  blue pouch containing two sachets of suspected shabu.
