CABANATUAN CITY – Two security guards and eight other theft suspects were caught red-handed while allegedly stealing several sacks of palay stored at the warehouse of S.L. Agritech Corporation here on Sunday morning.
City police head Lt. Col. Ponciano Zafra said the 10 suspects were immediately apprehended after he sent his men to check on the area after receiving a call from their asset that suspected thieves have again surfaced in the warehouse and began loading the sacks of palay in an Isuzu Forward truck with license plates XLB-433.
Zafra identified the two arrested security guards as Jaymar Catalon, 23, of Bgy. Malayantoc, Sto. Domingo, Nueva Ecija, and George Barbieto, 26, security guard at an adjacent establishment, of Bgy. Guevarra, La Paz, Tarlac.
Their eight other cohorts were identified as Alvin Trecinillo, 34, of Bgy. Tondod, San Jose City; Christian Espiritu, 39, of Bgy. Sapang, Moncada, Tarlac; Ramil Espiritu, 39, of Bgy. Moncada, Tarlac; Arthuro Dela Cruz, 55, and Richard Mallari, 39, both of Bgy. Malipangpang, San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Michael Dela Cruz, 27, also of Bgy. Malipangpang, San Ildefonso, Bulacan; John Lloyd Pineda, 21, and Vergel Noveda, 30, both of Bgy. Cabalabaan, Science City of Muñoz.
Zafra said the theft incident occurred at the SL Agritech Corporation’s warehouse located along the Cabanatuan-Carmen Road in Bgy. Cinco-Cinco at 5 a.m. and was reported to the police by company manager Jeffrey Aquino, 34, of Bgy. Maligaya, Science City of Muñoz.
Staff Sgt. Rodrigo Idago Jr, investigator-on-case said this was not the first time that the S.L. Agritech warehouse was being robbed of their palay stocks, noting that there were other theft incidents that occurred beforehand, prompting the management to seek help from the police.
“Daang libong sako ng palay ang laman ng bodega at naaktuhan ang mga suspek ng mga operatiba natin na dose na bag na ang naikarga sa Forward Truck na dala nila,” Idago told this written yesterday.
“Masyado nang malaki daw ang nawawala sa SL Agritech, kaya nagpaposte na si Hepe Colonel Zafra ng asset para i-monitor ang lugar,” added Idago.
Charges of qualified theft were already filed against Catalon while a case of theft was filed against the other nine suspects before the city prosecutor’s office here.
Idago said the ten suspects remained locked up at the police detention cell here.
