TWO wanted New People’s Army rebels in Mindanao were captured by security forces following a Philippine National Police Intelligence Group (PNP-IG)-led operation in Sarangani province last week, PNP-IG director, Brigadier General Edgar S. Monsalve announced yesterday.
In a report to PNP chief, General Archie Francisco F. Gamboa, the official identified the two as Ngo Magaw alias ‘Ka Proting’ and Buen Malantao alias ‘Ka Doming,’ respectively a team leader and platoon leader of the Segunda Platoon Samsung under the NPA’s Guerrilla Front 73 of the rebels’ Southern Mindanao Regional Committee.
Monsalve said that members of the PRO12 Regional Intelligence Division, Regional Mobile Force Battalion 12, the Maitum Municipal Police Station and the Army’s 27th Infantry Battalion were involved in the successful counter-insurgency operation.
The official said that the two are the subject of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Laureano Alzate of the Alabel, Sarangani Regional Trial Court Branch 38 on January 26, 2001 with no bail recommended.
He said that the two are accused of killing Pastor Leonardo Sebastian Jr. in Sitio Taila in Bgy. Kalaneg in Maitum on November 22, 2000. Both are now under the custody of the RIU12.
A PNP-IG-initiated operation in Zamboanga City last Friday also led in the capture of wanted Abu Sayyaf member Benhajar Salapuddin Alan inside the local port area, Monsalve added.
The official said that the suspect who is also known for his links with the Daulah Islamiyah terror ring was arrested on the basis of a warrant of arrest for murder issued by Judge Catherine Fabian of the Zamboanga City RTC Branch 16. No bail was recommended for the suspect’s temporary liberty.
Monsalve said that the suspect used to be a member of an Abu Sayyaf faction led by Commander Saddam Parad in Parang, Sulu but later shifted his allegiance to the Daulah Islamiyah after being recruited by its sub-leader Bunyamin Sawadjaan.
Monsalve said that prior to his arrest, the suspect was monitored to have gone to Zamboanga City from Basilan to coordinate a terror attack.
The suspect is wanted for the killing of one Joemer Jawadin in Zamboanga City on December 7, 2015. He is now being interrogated by officers from the RIU9. Gen. Gamboa has ordered the PNP-IG to launch more intelligence-driven operations to account for the country’s most wanted criminals and other Enemies of the State this year.
The PNP chief also instructed Monsalve to fully supervise all ongoing PNP-IG operations to put into jail most wanted persons especially those involved in terrorism and other heinous crimes but at the same time called on the country’s spooks to be ready to defend themselves once their lives are put into danger by ‘armed and dangerous criminals.’
