21 nabbed for illegal ‘sabong’ in Batangas

CAMP Gen. Malvar, Batangas — At least 21 ‘sabungeros’ were caught engaged in illegal cockfighting on separate incidents here last Sunday.

Batangas City Police Station Lt. Co. Julius C. Anonuevo reported to Batangas police director Col. Rex Arvin Malimban that seven suspects who were earlier arrested in Bgy. Balagtas.

The arrested suspects were identified as Jonas Maranan, mechanical engineer, Jose Fernando Maranan, helper, Anthony Sapunsan, dishwasher, Franz Jordan Columna, helper, Cayetano Abril, Julio Perez y Hindap, both SAP beneficiaries, and Bgy. Banaba Center Councilor Danilo Culla. Seized from them were two fighting cocks, two gaffs, and P1,920 in different denominations.

Lipa City police raided a tupada in Bgy. Marawoy at 9:30 a.m. and nabbed Jesus Labayo, Allan Luspe, Jerome Monzales and Marvin Ferranco .

Recovered at a tupada at 11:30 a.m. Bgy. Mabini were two fighting cocks, three gaffs, and cash. Collared were Luisito Gamboa, Raymond Ong, Benjamin Valencia and Gerald Usman.

In Sto Tomas City, police handcuffed four more suspected sabungeros in Bgy. San Miguel at around 11:30 a.m. and two more individuals in Bgy. Balatbat, Lobo town at 5:30 p.m. Confiscated from the suspects were fighting cocks, gaffs, and cash.
