A TOTAL of  28 Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) members were killed,  while 29 others surrendered and four  were arrested in intense military operations from January 1 to June 18,2020.

This was confirmed by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) –Public Affairs Office (PAO) Chief Captain Jonathan V. Zata.

Zata said troops also seized 41 high-powered firearms and seven improvised explosive devices from the bandits as eight encampments were discovered during the period.

Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff  General Felimon T. Santos said  the success of the military operations against the bandits can be attributed to the support of the national leadership.

“The success of our operations against the Abu Sayyaf Group can be attributed to the strong support of the national leadership, interagency cooperation, and the soldiers’ high state of morale. The AFP will sustain this momentum against the terror group so that once and for all, peace and development will be genuinely felt by our people,” Santos said.

Among the military’s  recent accomplishments was the capture of an ASG bomber by joint AFP and Philippine National Police (PNP) troops in Zamboanga on June 18.
