3 cops hurt in Mindoro ambush

THREE members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) were wounded when unidentified suspects ambushed the police vehicle they were riding yesterday morning  in Oriental Mindoro.

Taken to Oriental Mindoro Provincial Hospital for treatment were  PCMS Ivan Fortus, PSMS Irene M. Laso and  PCpl. Ivy Carmona, all members  of Pinamalayan, Municipal Police Station.

Reports reaching Camp Crame said the incident occurred at around 7:45 a.m. along SR H Barangay Pasi 2, Sicorro, Oriental Mindoro.

Initial investigation showed that the victims were onboard a mobile patrol of Pinamalayan Municipal Police Station together with Police Capt. Ruelito R. Magtibay and Barangay Captain Noli Dela Cruz driven by Pat. Raquel Generoso going to Calapan City  to attend a radio program when the incident happened.

According to Barangay Captain Caspe, before the incident they heard a loud explosion followed by a burst of gunfire.

He said the suspects targeted the cops.

The driver of the mobile car managed to steer the vehicle away from the killing zone to avoid more casualties.

After the incident, the suspects fled towards an unknown direction while the victims were rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.
