3 cops hurt in Sulu ambush

SUSPECTED Abu Sayyaf gunmen fired at a police vehicle in Patikul, Sulu early evening last Wednesday injuring three policemen and a member of a barangay peacekeeping team, the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region Police Regional Office reported yesterday.

BARMM police director, Brigadier General Marni C. Marcos Jr. said that the victims identified as Chief Master Sergeant Abdulmuidz Marajani, Senior MSgt. Adil Salamat, Corporal Halkim Ibno and BPAT member Nurhan Ali were taken to the Army hospital in Camp Bautista in Jolo, Sulu for treatment.

Marajani, Ibno and Ali all suffered from shrapnel wounds while Salamat was shot on his right leg.

An initial investigation showed that the victims were on board a Mahindra patrol vehicle traveling along Sitio Parang-Parang in Barangay Buhanginan in Patikul on their way to Taglibih area from Jolo when when they were attacked by at least seven Abu Sayyaf bandits at 6:50 p.m. Wednesday.

Upon getting the report about the attack, troops from the Sulu Police Provincial Office and the Army’s Special Force rushed to the site but failed to get any of the attackers. The troopers brought the victims to the military hospital.

Marcos said that the gunmen are still being hunted as of press time.
