THREE small-scale miners in Sibulan, Negros Oriental were believed to have perished when the site they were digging caved-in shortly before noon yesterday, police said.
Police Regional Office 7 director, Chief Superintendent Debold M. Sinas said that a 4th miner identified as Mauro Alforque,44, a resident of Aldea Subdivision in nearly Bgy. Cagnatong, managed to climb up fshortly after the 11:30 a.m. tragedy.
Sinas said the victims were trapped underneath the collapsed small mining site at Purok 4, Barangay Bolocboloc in Sibulan.
The official said that members of the Sibulan Municipal Police Station and local rescue personnel rushed to the site to pluck the victims.
An investigation showed that Alforqueand his companions identified as Algie Javier, Boy Insilan and an alias ‘Bobby’ were trapped inside the mine site.
Sinas said that Alforque, a resident of Aldea Subdivision in nearby Bgy. Cagnating told the local police that he was able to climb his way up to tunnel entrance.
The lone survivor said that they started digging in the middle of November 2018.
However, he said that shortly before noon yesterday, the soil in the area caved-in trapping them underneath.
Sinas said that the small -scale mining site has no permit. “Rescue operations are still ongoing as of press tine,” he said.
