3 robbers killed in Batangas clash

THREE armed robbers yesterday were killed while a cohort managed to escape in an encounter with pursuing policemen in Malvar, Batangas.

Two of the slain suspects were identified as  Ponciano Raul Leynes, 54;  and Lencio Morada, 59.

An unidentified companion managed to flee during the gunfight.

The encounter occurred at 12:50 a.m.  yesterday in Bgy. Luta Sur, Malvar municipality.

Before the clash, the suspects robbed a Shell gasoline station in  Bgy. Bugtong, Lipa City.

The robbery was reported to the local police who immediately alerted all  police stations nearby and put up a checkpoint.

The suspects were cornered at a checkpoint in Malvar but instead of stopping when they were flagged down, the suspects fired at the team manning the checkpoint, triggering an encounter.

Seized at the clash site were three cal. .45 pistols, one Yamaha Mio motorcycle and a Honda TMX motorbike.

It was learned that the suspects were companions of Reymises  Vivar Fernandez alias “Mise” and members of the “Lat Group” involved in robbery  and gun-for-hire activities.
