SOME 350 Police Regional Office 2 recruits considered the “best and the brightest” in Cagayan Valley yesterday started their year-long rigorous training after taking their oath before PRO2 director Brigadier General Jose Mario M. Espino.
The 350 were the candidates who successfully passed a tough screening conducted by the PRO2 Recruitment and Selection Board on orders of Espino.
The official said they were among some 1,966 college degree holders who sought to join police force through the PRO2 Online Recruitment Application System (ORAS) last year. Of the total, only 1,478 passed the Physical Agility Test and 447 passed the Psychiatric/Psychological Examination.
The number was further trimmed down to 350 after the applicants successfully completed the Patrolman Recruitment Program.
Of the 350 recruits, 282 are males while 68 are females. The PRO2 said the recruits are from the following Cagayan Valley provinces: 175 from Cagayan, 121 from Isabela, 23 from Nueva Vizcaya, 3 from Batanes, 12 from Quirino, 11 from Santiago City and 5 from other PRO2 areas.
When he administered the oath of office to the 250 recruits, Espino called on them to bear in mind that they need to be disciplined and live up to the ideals of the police force.
The 350 will undergo a grueling training to be supervised by the Regional Training Center 2 in Cauayan City in Isabela.
They have to finish the Public Safety Basic Recruit Course and Field Training Program before finally being allowed to do patrol duties and investigation.
