FOUR separate grenade explosions were recorded in Cotabato City and a town in Maguindanao yesterday in what authorities said were attacks aimed to scare voters.
Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commanding general of the 6th Infantry Division, said the first explosion took place near the town proper of Datu Odin Sinsuat, in Maguindanao Sunday evening.
Two more explosions occured near the Cotabato City Hall on Sunday around 10 p.m.
“The explosions occurred in open areas which are not a usual converging points. There were no reported casualties,” Sobejana said.
“Motive is possibly to disrupt the sorting of voting paraphernalia that will be used on election day,” Sobejana added
Around 7:30 a.m. yesterday, another explosion rocked the opening of the polling precincts in Datu Odin Sinsuat.
Sobejana said allies of competing candidates could be behind the explosions.

Mijares said despite the explosions, the first hours of the elections were orderly and peaceful in Maguindanao and other parts of the regionas additional security troops were dispatched to protect the voters and election officials.
