TAAL, Batangas -- A tricycle driver and his passenger were declared dead at the hospital while three others were severely injured in a four-vehicle collision along Bgy. Mahabang Lodlod highway here Tuesday night.
Police said the two fatalities who suffered grave body injuries were identified as Loreto Paner Jr., of Bgy. Nagpulok, Taal and passenger Jamaica Serwelas.
The injured victims were identified as Gilbert Brebonera of Bgy. Bihis, Melanie S. Marasigan, back rider, of Bgy. Poblacion 1, both of Sta Teresita town, and Roberto Alcala, driver of Toyota Hi Ace commuter van.
Initial investigation showed that the Mazda MX5 with plate No. RJ9599 owned and being driven by Malvin Mendoza, a resident of Bgy. Payapa Ilaya, Lemery, Batangas was traversing from Mahabang Ludlod going to Lemery town around 8:30 p.m. took the opposite lane and hit a Kawasaki Barako with a side car driven by Paner, with one passenger, a Honda motorcycle driven by Gilbert Brebonera with back rider identified as Melanie Marasigan and a Toyota Hi Ace Commuter Van driven by Roberto Alcala which came from opposite direction.
As a result, all the victims sustained injuries and were brought to Taal Polymedic Hospital, but Paner and passenger Serwelas were pronounced dead on arrival by attending physician Dra. Vinus Marie Rojas.
Mendoza was taken to Batangas Provincial Hospital in Lemery town for medical treatment.
All the vehicles involved were damaged.
