POLICE are investigating the case of five decomposing bodies discovered in a ravine along the Marcos Highway in Tuba, Benguet after local residents complained of stench coming in the area, Cordillera Police Regional Office director, Brigadier General Ephraim Israel T. Dickson said yesterday.
“We are still investigating the identities of the victims with the help of the forensic experts from the Crime Laboratory,” said the official.
According to Dickson, local policemen and Bureau of Fire Protection personnel found the bodies and another human skeleton at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday after being alerted by local residents about the presence of foul odor coming from the ravine in Sitio Poyopoy in Barangay Taloy Sur in Tuba municipality.
He said that there is a possibility that the victims could have been killed somewhere and dumped in the area more than two weeks ago due to the nature of their decomposition.
Quoting a report from Tuba Municipal Police Station commander, Major James Acod, Dickson said that the local police have received information about some ‘missing persons’ in the area in the past weeks although it could not be immediately known if any of the missing were among those found dead.
The site is said to be a known ‘dumping ground’ of victims of summary execution in the 1980s.
