GENERAL TINIO, Nueva Ecija -- Five men were arrested on Saturday in a raid on two compounds here allegedly being used as a dog slaughterhouse.
Provincial police director Senior Supt. Eliseo T. Tanding said members of the Nueva Ecija police and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group under provincial officer Supt. Reyson Bagain and the Animal Kingdom Foundation Inc. swooped down on two illegal dog slaughterhouses in Bgys. Pias and Concepcion and nabbed two butchers and their three helpers.
Tanding identified those arrested as Simeon Pascual, 59; Arlan Nicolas, 24, both butchers and residents of Bgy. Pias; Ariel Nicolas, 20, and Edner Manucdoc, 53, both of Bgy. Rio Chico; and Conrado Maducdoc, 77, of Bgy. Concepcion.
Seized during the joint operations were eight live dogs and two dead dogs suspected to be delivered to customers including restaurants, some cooking utensils and several tools allegedly used in slaughtering the canines.
The suspects were brought to the CIDG office in Cabanatuan City and will be charged with violation of Republic Act 8485 (Animal Welfare Act of 1998).
