CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga– Police authorities claimed yesterday that two former NPA rebels surrendered while 50 members of Anakpawis widrew support from the underground movement.
“The Police Regional Office 3’s efforts as staunch member of the Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (RTF-ELCAC) and RTF ELCAC’s persistent campaign on anti-terrorism resulted to the voluntary surrender of two former NPA members in Nueva Ecija and withdrawal of support of 50 ANAKPAWIS members in Tarlac on Thursday,” said Gen. Rhodel Sermonia, police director.
Sermonia added that the continuous local peace engagement activities of the Philippine National Police and other RTF ELCAC members such as information dissemination made the rebels aware of the government’s programs to help them change their lives and correct the mistakes they have committed due to deception.
The two surrenderers from San Jose City, Nueva Ecija were former CPP-NPA members and are eligible to avail of the government’s Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (e-clip). They will be provided with a holistic package of benefits such as livelihood, medical, education, housing, and legal assistance, said Sermonia.
The 50 Anakpawis members led by their Chairman Danilo Bacnis withdrew support fro, the CPP-NPA-NDF with the voluntary surrender of Bacnis’ firearm.
“I am once again urging those who are still actively fighting the government to lay down their arms and embrace other peaceful means to attain their sought after changes.Our government has several programs to retool you so that you could all become even more productive members of our society,” Sermonia added.
