6 hurt as carnival ride collapses in Bicol

SIX persons including three minors were injured when  the amusement ride they were on fell to the ground in  Legazpi City, Albay Saturday evening.

Taken to Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital for treatment were Jasmine Maud, 8; Jester Kurt Badong, 6; Mateth Lopez, 59; Angyeta Balong, 40; Monica Herrera, 22; and Jeric Conde, 13.

Reports reaching Camp  Crame stated that the incident occurred around 9 p.m. at  the travelling carnival in Landco Business Park,  Barangay Capantawan, Legazpi City, Albay.

According to  Legazpi police chief Lt. Col. Aldwin Gamboa,  the victims sustained  minor injuries but will still undergo X-ray tests to determine if they also sustained internal injuries.

Gamboa said the victims were on a spinning swing or St. Lukes Merry Mixed-Up ride when it suddenly collapsed.

The owner of the traveling carnival, an annual visitor in the city from October to December, will shoulder the victims’ medical expenses.

Police said based on the initial investigation, the spinning swing  malfunctioned.
