SEVEN persons were arrested in Iloilo for vote-buying on Friday, Police Regional Office 6 director Brigadier General John C. Bulalacao said yesterday.
Four of the seven identified as Fe Durban, 50; Nemia Arellado,58; Solomon Unay,52; and Edwind Yamson,59, all residents of Poblacion, Ajuy, were arrested by local policemen while reportedly engaged in vote-buying in Sitio Pangpang in Barangay Poblacion.
Recovered from the their possession were two sample ballots, one white envelope containing a P1,000 bill and a list of registered voters in the barangay.
Three others, all residents of Barotac Nuevo town, were nabbed for allegedly selling their votes.
Bulalacao identified the three as Letecia Cataluna, an 80-year-old widow from Bgy. Tabuc-Suba; Robero Araquil,55, of Ilaud, Poblacion, Barotac Nuevo; and Rolly Tolen,29, of Bgy. Tubungan.
The three were caught by members of the Iloilo Provincial Police Intelligence Branch in Bgy. Ilaya.
Cataluna yielded a white envelope containing two P500 bills and one sample ballot while Araquil was found in possession of a white envelope with two P500 bills, one sample ballot, one small brown envelope containing a P100 bill with the names of candidates Dominic Oso, Domingo Oso and Ane-Anne Dimafiles. Tolen yielded one white envelope with two P500 bills and a sample ballot.
Bulalacao said the seven will be charged with violation of the Omnibus Election Code.
