700 jailed in Cavite in weeklong anti-crime ops

SIMULTANEOUS anti-criminality drive and enforcement of the General Community Quarantine in Cavite province from Monday to Friday led in the killing of an armed drug trafficking suspect and the arrest of 719 others who are either facing criminal charges or are violators of health protocols, a report to Police Regional Office 4-A director, Brigadier General Vicente D. Danao Jr. said yesterday.

Cavite Police Provincial Office director, Colonel Marlon R. Santos said that suspect Edgar Villanueva alias ‘Boyong’ was killed in a gunfight with members of the Drug Enforcement Unit of the Rosario Municipal Police Station led by Major Joewie Lucas in Barangay Silangan 2 on Friday.

The slain suspect yielded 34 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, the marked money paid to him by a poseur and a loaded firearm.

On the same day, the Cavite police arrested 20 persons wanted for various felonies, 13 of them on drug charges during a string of operations which resulted in the confiscation of 22 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, five plastic packets with dried marijuana leaves, assorted drug paraphernalia and marked money.

Another 188 GCQ violators were also apprehended on the same day for violation of curfew hours, social distancing and going on public without face masks.

On Thursday, local policemen arrested 41 wanted felons including the 3rd most wanted person in Silang municipality and 12 known drug personalities who yielded 34 plastic sachets containing suspected shabu.

Santos said the arrested suspects were the subject of warrants of arrest for rape, qualified rape, murder, attempted homicide, direct assault upon an agent of a person in authority and reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.

A total of 135 GCQ violators including 65 who were found loitering in public without face mask were also apprehended on the same day.

On Wednesday, Cavite policemen also arrested 25 known drug personalities and eight wanted persons and apprehended 105 GCQ violators in the province.

Santos said that recovered from the arrested drug offenders were 44 plastic sachets with shabu, assorted drug paraphernalia and the buy-bust money. The wanted persons arrested were facing charges for rape, direct assault, carnapping and child abuse.

The 105 GCQ violators apprehended include 15 who were accosted for not wearing face mask in public, 75 for curfew violation and 13 for violation of social distancing rules.

On Tuesday, 37 wanted persons including the 8th most wanted man in Calabarzon region were arrested by the local police. Another 53 GCQ violators were also apprehended on the same day.

Santos identified the 8th most wanted person in Region 4-A who was arrested as Ortigueras Lim, a man who is the subject of a warrant of arrest for qualified rape issued by Judge Mary Jean Cajandab-Pamittan of the Sta. Cruz, Laguna Regional Trial Court Branch 26 on August 30, 2017.

On Monday, 85 GCQ violators in the province were also hauled to local precincts. Another 16 were arrested for engaging in ‘tupada’ sessions. Recovered from the suspects were 11 fighting cocks, seven gaffs and P5,470 in cash bets.
