A POLICE officer known for his vigorous campaign against illegal drugs was killed by a lone gunman in an ambush Wednesday night in Malabon City.
SSgt. Orland ‘Lucky Boy’ De Leon, of No. 144 D. Stotsenburg Street, 10th Avenue, Caloocan City, and assigned at the Malabon Police Station Drug Enforcement Team (SDET), died on the spot from multiple gunshot wounds.
The still unidentified gunman immediately fled after the incident on a motorcycle.
Malabon police homicide investigators SSgt. Mardelo Osting and Pat. Romaliza Delco said the victim was on his way home on a motorcycle at around 6:11 p.m. when a lone gunman, who was waiting for him on Araneta Avenue, in Bgy. Potrero, shot him repeatedly.
The burst of gunfire caught the attention of EMSgt. Randy Santiago and his men who were patrolling near the area. They chased the suspect but failed to arrest him.
Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) led by Maj. Avelino Andaya recovered from the crime scene 15 pieces of empty shells and a deformed slug from unknown caliber of firearm which will be submitted to the PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.
Malabon police chief Col. Jessie Tamayao said the motive behind the killing is yet to be determined.
