Balanga administrator succumbs to coronavirus

BATAAN--The administrator of Balanga city hall succumbed Friday to the deadly coronavirus, the first casualty in Bataan.

Jose B Lingad hospital in San Fernando, Pampanga where the victim was rushed, failed to save the life of Rudy de Mesa, 57, a native of Balanga city.

De Mesa was earlier described as a person under investigation (PUI)only but Bataeños were shocked to learn about his sudden demise last night.

Bataeños described de Mesa as a great public servant, teacher and a competent administrator being an incumbent administrator of Balanga city and former provincial administrator of Bataan.

Balanga City and health officials are now tracing the people with whom de Mesa mingled with prior to his death.

In Mariveles town, Mayor Jocelyn P Castañeda reported that Mariveles has already recorded a positive case in COVID-19.

“Our first case here in Mariveles has no travel history. On March 22, he was brought to BGH because he was attacked by asthma, and became PUI because he was having difficulty breathing and had  fever, symptoms of COVID-19,” said Castañeda.

Despite this news, the lady mayor said, “we have nothing to worry about because we are ready for this. “

Castañeda said:

1) The contact tracing has begun to determine who joined the said COVID-19 fatality,

2) The barangay where the sick lives, had been immediately disinfected;

3) The municipality gave alcohol to the barangay;

4) Will implement from now on 24-hour Total Lockdown.
