Bgy. head jailed for guns, ammo

A BARANGAY captain in Amulung, Cagayan on Thursday was hauled to jail by the local police after officers found several unlicensed high-powered firearms and dozens of ammunition inside his house, Police Regional Office 2 director, Chief Superintendent Jose Mario M. Espino said yesterday.

Luciano Saquing, the 51-year old chairman of Bgy. Masical in Amulung town will be facing charges for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act of 2013, said the official.

A report filed by PRO2 deputy regional director for administration, Chief Supt. John Cornelius A. Jambora stated that around 3 p.m. Thursday, members of the 2nd Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit and the local police raided the house of the suspect on the strength of a search warrant for violation of RA 10591 issued by a local court.

The officers led by Supt. Ronald Gayo arrested the barangay official after they found an M-14 rifle with serial no. 667242, a home-made 12-gauge shotgun, seven caliber 7.62 magazines, one 9mm magazine, 84 live 7.62 ammunition, 27 cal. .45 bullets, 18 shotgun ammunition, 12 9mm bullets, a cal. .38 ammunition and a magazine bandolier.
