STEPPED-UP anti-narcotics operations by the Bicol police on Monday led in the killing of an armed drug trafficker following a shootout with undercover officers in Sorsogon and the arrest of five others, Police Regional Office 5 director, Brigadier General Anthony Alcañeses said.
The official said that suspect Rodolfo Sumalinog, a known ‘high-value drug target’ in the region, engaged officers in a shootout in Barangay San Vicente in Bulan, Sorsogon around at 5:50 p.m. Monday and was killed in the process.
The suspect had just sold a packet of shabu to a poseur when he sensed he was dealing with a policeman and tried to shoot the cop but missed. Back-up operatives returned fire in defense of the undercover operative, the official said.
Two other suspects identified as Miguel Ajejandro, Greco Daclan and Caesar Castañeda were also arrested while conspiring to sell shabu to a poseur in Bgy. Mabolo in Naga City at around 8 p.m. Monday. A 17-year-old boy who is believed to be an accomplice of the trio was also placed under arrest by the local police.
