A powerful improvised explosive device went off in front of the Zamboanga City residence of a Sulu mayor early morning yesterday although no one was reported injured in the blast, police said.
Police Regional Office 9 director, Brigadier General Froilan F. Quidilla said that the improvised explosive device was set off at the house of Mayor Asri Taib of Panguratan, Sulu in Bienvenido Drive in Canelar Moret, Barangay Canelar, Zamboanga City.
“We’re still investigating the motive and identities of the suspects behind the IED attack,” said Quidilla as a team of bomb disposal experts rushed to the site to help investigate the incident.
Quidilla assured the public that the blast is not terror-related and is an ‘isolated case.’ As of press time, investigators are eyeing personal motive behind the incident.
He also ordered stepped-up security in the city and other parts of Western Mindanao in the aftermath of the explosion.
Quidilla also called local residents to report the presence of suspicious movements of persons and unattended packages and bags to their “Isumbong Mo, I-ACTION Ko Hotlines” 0977-3102-365 for Globe and 0961-2977-064 for Smart.
