GABALDON, Nueva Ecija — A 14-year-old boy who went swimming all by himself after initially rejecting his friend’s invitation to go spider-hunting earlier was found dead after drowning in a river here over the weekend.

Police identified the young victim as Arvin Rirao, of Bgy. North Poblacion.

Police SSgt. Darius Soriano, case investigator, said the boy’s body was found floating in a deep portion of the Santor River near Bgy. Camatchile at 10:45 a.m. Sunday.

Aurelio, the victim’s father, upon learning the incident rushed to the area to try to rescue his son but to no avail, said Soriano.

It was learned that prior to the drowning incident, a 13-year-old friend of the victim identified as Mark Paul Caisido came and asked Arvin to go spider-hunting in the fields but the latter refused and left him at a store and went swimming instead.

Mark Paul said he noticed that Arvin had a small flashlight hidden inside his bull cap when he left.

Soriano said the boy’s cadaver was brought to the Araneta Funeral Homes in Bgy. Bagting for autopsy and proper disposition.
